Ramya Krishna's real name is Ramya Krishnan, is one of the successful multilingual actress in commercial Indian cinema.

She has over 200 films to her credit. She also holds a rare record of acting in five languages, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

South Indian sexy film star Ramya Krishna was born on 15th September 1967, Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu.

She comes from a Tamil Iyer Brahmin family. Her uncle is Cho Ramaswamy, who is a comedian.

Ramya Krishnan is trained in Bharathnatyam and Kuchipudi dances, and had given many stage performances.


Ramya Krishnan began her acting career in the Tamil movie Vellai Manasu when she was in highschool at the age of 13 and has been in the field for 20+ years. She was studying in 8th standard when she acted in her first film. The movie was big flop.

After a few initial hiccups, it was the film Muthal Vasantham, opposite Pandian, that went on to be a big hit at the box-office.

Ramyakrishna's first Telugu film was Bhalae Mithrulu. She received immense success with director K.Viswanath’s Suthradarulu (1987) in Telugu have given first major break to Ramya Krishna as an actress.

At the early stages of her career, she found the going tough. Then, she shifted to Telugu and her godfather and famous director Raghavendra Rao

Under the direction of K.Raghavendra Rao, Ramyakrishna established herself as a ‘star’ in Telugu film industry. She worked with all the major heroes like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Venkatesh, Nagarjuna and Jagapathi Babu.


Though a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, she never really got a chance to explore that facet of her.

Her biggest success was in the Tamil movie Padayappa (1999) with Rajnikanth and Sivaji Ganeshan.Padayappa has brought her recognition and fame not only in South India but also internationally in Japan, Singapore, London and Paris. Her role (Neelambari) in Padayappa was perhaps the best role of her career and disproved her critics who said that she was a mere glam doll.

Ramya have also enjoyed success in Kannada movies. In Kannada movies she acted with top heroes like Vishnuvardhan, Ravichandran and Upendra in movies like Krishna Rukmini, Mangalyam Thanthunanaena and Raktha Kanneeru.

Her biggest Kannada hits include Gadibidi Ganda and Mangalyam Thanthunanaena with Ravichandran and Raktha Kanneeru with Upendra.

Ramya Krishna has also done several films with the Malayalam superstar, Mohanlal, such as 'Neram Pularumbol', 'Orkkapurathu', and 'Aham'.

Bollywood saw her in Dayavan, Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan (1998) and Parampara 1993).

Ramya has done item numbers in several films, including Kamal Haasan's 'Panchathanthiram', Suriya starrer 'Kaakka Kaakka' and Simbu's film 'Kuthu'.

Ramya Krishan had appeared in a game show called Thanga vettai (Gold Hunt) shown in SUN TV. Ramya Krishna also hosts Zara Masti Zara Doom which features celebrity interviews.

Rumour has it that she once had an affair with the director K. Raghavendra Rao.

The actress married noted Telugu film director Krishna Vamsi on 12 June 2003 and has since then settled in Hyderabad, and they have a son called Ritwik.

Actress Trisha Krishnann and Ramya Krishna have been good buddies and they move around together.


She bagged two prestigious Nandi Awards from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India and a National Award from the Indian Government as well. She won the Special Jury award for her performance in Dasari Narayana Rao's film Kante Koothurne Kanu from the Andhra Pradesh state government.
