Celluloid angel of south, Khushboo is more than just a pretty actress and has acquired a goddess status in the Tamil Nadu state.
Khushboo's real name is Naggarth Khan. She acts in all South Indian languages Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.
Khushboo was born on 29th September 1970 in Mumbai. She has three brothers. Her brother, Abdullah, is expected to make his debut in the movie industry, playing the lead role in the movie "Netru pol inru illai".
She started her career in the eighties as a child artist. Her first movie was Thodisi Bewafaii in 1980 where she had an uncredited appearance. Later, in 1981, she had her first role in Laawaris.
Kushboo was introduced to South India by the Kannada film actor-director Ravichandran. She has acted in many movies with him notably Ranadheera, Anjada Gandu, Shanthi Kranthi and Yugapurusha.
Later, she was introduced to Tollywood with "Kaliyuga Paandavulu", which is also debit film for Telugu film star Venkatesh.
In the later part of the 80s she started getting meatier roles. Movies like Ranadheera (1988), Michael Madana Kamarajan (1991), Alai Payuthey (2000) and Stalin (2006) were popular with the masses.
She has acted in a number of hit movies with south Indian super stars like Prabhu, Venkatesh, Karthik, Kamalhaasan and Rajanikant as well.
The film Bhadram Koduko where she acted as a street child won National Award. She won Tamil Nadu State Award for Chinna Thambi, Kolangal, Pathini and Cinema Express Award for Irattai Roja.
The actress made headlines in 2005 when she commented in the media that she didn’t find anything wrong with pre-marital sex and that women had to be educated about the use of contraceptives to avoid unwanted pregnancy. Her comments were met with outrage by conservative groups who tried to take legal action against her.
There were several strong rumours that the actress was married to Prabhu Ganesan who is son of the legendary late Tamil actor Sivaji Ganeshan. She had been paired with Prabhu in many movies such as Chinna Thambi, Dharmathin Thalaivan, Velli Vizha, Paandithurai, Kizhakku Karai, My Dear Marthandan, etc. but this news was never confirmed by Prabhu, who was already married.
She converted to Hinduism when she married Sundar C, a director and actor. The couple have two daughters, Avanthika and Ananditha.
The actress has a temple built by her fans in Thiruchirapalli (Trichy). She is considered as an actress of enchanting beauty and talents.
She has grown into a brand, with idlis and sarees named after her. A special type of idli (a popular food in south Indian cuisine) called "Kushboo Idli" is named after her. Khushboo's name, perhaps is the first to be used as brand on sarees in the south as "Kushboo Saree".
Khushboo was one of the judge in the dance show Maanada mayilada on Kalaignar TV. She has been seen on television with appearances in Jackpot, Kalki and Janani.
